A lot of subwoofers and loudspeakers employ the bass reflex principle to enhance bass reproduction. Higher bass levels are produced through an opening in the enclosure by the sound being used additionally in the interior volume. This requires bass reflex tubes precisely matched in terms of length and diameter to ensure that the acoustic pressures add up in an optimum manner. Due to the physical properties, the tubes have a smaller diameter than the bass speakers, meaning that the air flows through at a higher speed. This can cause undesirable flow noise, which impairs the reproduction. Magnat´s Airflex technology provides a remedy for this. Magnat Airflex ports are rounded aerodynamically at both ends. These rounded ends hugely reduce undesirable background noise and, in this way, ensure particularly clean bass reproduction, even at high volumes.

One of the most important components in a loudspeaker is the frequency crossover. It divides the incoming signals among the subwoofer, woofer and tweeter and linearises their reproduction. At the same time, it is designed to operate in as loss-free a manner as possible and should not add any distortions to the music. This means that it is essentially responsible for the sound and resilience of the sound transducer. The frequency crossovers in Magnat´s loudspeakers rely on APOC (Amplitude and Phase Optimized Crossover) technology. This ensures, with perfectly clean and symmetrical transitions between the individual paths with regard to amplitude and phase, that the reproduction from the loudspeakers is totally free of discoloration and perfectly timed.
Loudspeakers like this one are produced with a double connection terminal. They can be operated like quite normal loudspeakers; one terminal then simply remains unoccupied. In addition, however, they also provide for two further operating modes, each with its own benefits:1.Bi-wiringHere, the signals for the bass as well as the mid-tone/treble ranges are fed from the hi-fi receiver to the loudspeaker via a separate cable. This further enhances signal purity and, therefore, the precision of the reproduction.2.Bi-ampingHere, each loudspeaker is supplied with power not just by one but, rather, by two fully-fledged amplifier channels. The substantially increases the overall performance, resulting together with the advantages of bi-wiring in a particularly clean sound.
The Ceramic Alu Cone (CAC) is an in-house development by Magnat that ensures significantly improved reproduction – and in multiple areas. In terms of structure, it is a so-called "sandwich membrane". A core layer made of aluminium is enclosed by ceramic material on both sides. A complex chemical process produces a composite material that offers high internal damping and, at the same time, avoids sound-distorting partial vibrations. The cone membrane takes advantage of the combined properties of ceramic (strength) and aluminium (flexibility and low weight) to guarantee high-precision reproduction of every audio signal. The result: outstanding, authentic sound.
Human hearing functions very precisely, especially in the treble and mid-tone ranges, which means that precise reproduction is an absolute must here for high-quality loudspeakers. Conventional loudspeaker membranes tend towards uncontrolled, chaotic movements, especially in the upper mid-tone range. With the "Controlled Flexing Cone“, Magnat has developed a unique membrane geometry especially for woofers and subwoofers. The special membrane form ensures controlled characteristics at the upper end of the transmission range and beyond. This makes reproduction in the upper mid-range much more precise and ensures harmonious transition in the treble range.
A high load capacity is immensely important for our high quality speakers; basically it´s their life blood. As the processing of high performance is always associated with high currents and, therefore, high heat build-up, we attach a great deal of attention to heat dissipation. The drive systems in Magnat´s loudspeakers are optimally cooled via numerous ventilation measures on the baskets and voice coils in order to guarantee high thermal resistance and, therefore, also constant loudspeaker parameters at all times. The result is a more precise and dynamic sound, even at a sustained high load.
A loudspeaker as a whole works optimally when its individual components harmonise well together and can concentrate completely on their own actual job. To ensure that the woofer and subwoofer can deliver a perfect result in this loudspeaker, we have equipped them with FE Driver Dynamics technology. An optimized ferrite drive system, non-magnetic baskets with voice coil ventilation and large basket perforations minimise electrical and mechanical losses. In this way, the entire drive energy flows into signal reproduction, ensuring maximum precision there.
The Fmax Signature tweeter is a special Magnat development that is used only in selected systems, i.e. the highest quality Quantum loudspeakers. This dome made of specially coated synthetic silk meets the very highest demands in terms of resilience and level of detail and has an outstanding frequency range. Thanks to an extra-wide surround, loudspeakers that can boast an Fmax Signature tweeter attain substantially improved and optimized dispersion characteristics - even beyond 20 kHz. High resolution and precision are further trademarks of the Fmax Signature tweeter. In addition, these drivers are fitted with particularly powerful magnet systems with absolutely minimum distortion. Fmax Signature tweeters are supported by a special aluminium flange with optimized sound guide.
The Hi-Res Audio certification presented by the Japan Audio Society (JAS) stands for modern, high-resolution analogue and digital hi-fi. After testing, the certificate can be awarded for various categories of hi-fi devices. It guarantees particularly high cut-off frequencies for analogue devices and digital signal resolutions far above CD quality, ensuring that all Hi-Res Audio-certified devices meet the minimum standards for high-resolution playback.To obtain the sought-after seal of approval, digital sections must be able to process at least 24 bits and 96 kHz, the entry format into the world of high-resolution digital signals. For loudspeakers and analogue devices, the certification stipulates an upper cut-off frequency of at least 40,000 Hz. This guarantees that corresponding signals are also reproduced correctly.This Magnat product carries the Hi-Res Audio logo, ensuring that all of the JAS requirements for high-resolution reproduction have been tested and met.
Lots of different things are needed for the development and design of a high-quality loudspeaker: Talent, experience, passion, a profound knowledge of the laws of physics and acoustics as well as a whole range of further qualifications. Our development engineers have all of this. To ensure that they can translate their huge expertise into practice in an optimum way, they work only with the highest quality development tools. One of these is the so-called Klippel system. This laser-assisted measuring and simulation system makes measurements and predictions possible about the final loudspeaker properties with unparalleled precision even during the ongoing development process. The end result of this are loudspeakers that perform with much lower distortion, a greater wealth of detail and more intense dynamics that those measured using conventional systems.
The lower the frequency, the more air that has to be moved for the same volume. This is why subwoofers are usually the largest speakers in a set. A long-throw subwoofer is used here to ensure that the entire system can also come up trumps with full dynamics and power during action-packed sequences in the home cinema and when listening to music at high volumes. This system allows much greater deflection of the membrane, causing more air to be moved on the same loudspeaker area. The result: dynamic, crisp bass right down to the lowest frequencies.
The "linearisation and protection circuit“ (LPC) is used in all of our active subwoofers. This special filter circuit performs two different important functions: First of all, it effectively protects the subwoofer against subsonic (i.e. inaudible) frequencies that could otherwise cause damage to the loudspeaker. Secondly, this releases power reserves that would otherwise be lost and which the subwoofer exploits for deep bass reproduction in the audible range. The result: A distinctly more linear frequency response and clean, powerful bass.

Magnat´s built-in speakers are specially tailored to use in a commercial environment, such as the gastronomy sector. To guarantee reliable and safe operation, this model has effective overload protection. This ensures that the loudspeaker does not suffer permanent damage, even in the event of short-term overload.
After selection, pre-amplification and volume control of the music comes the final function of an amplifier - producing the power for the speakers. This is by no means a trivial task: the amplifier stage has to reproduce the music signal in a rapid and absolutely precise manner, also at the highest loads. Valves and tubes provide a great sound as an amplifier stage, but necessitate complex technical measures, deliver relatively little power and do not work well with all speakers. The resilient and versatile transistor is therefore better suited to the generation of power. For these reasons, we have combined a tube pre-amp stage with a transistor power-amp stage in this Magnat amplifier so as to benefit from the advantages of both technologies. The valves/tubes selected show off their sonorous charm to the full in the low power range of the amplifier. When it really is a matter of power, on the other hand, the particularly high-quality transistors fully exploit their technical advantages. A generously dimensioned and elaborately stabilised power supply provides the energy needed for this in a reliable way. The so-called "discrete structure" of the amplifier stage from selected individual components also guarantees optimum cooling, precisely defined signal paths and the best component quality.
All Magnat subwoofers are designed to reproduce deep bass in a powerful way and up to the performance limit. To enable them to do this safely, we have equipped all the subwoofer power amps with a Real Time Limiter (RTL). The component protects the subwoofer against damage and, at the same time, provides for more gentle limitation of the signal in the borderline area. This prevents hard clipping of the signal, with the bass signals sounding harmonious and natural over the entire bass frequency range.
In our amplifier pre-stages, classic electronic valves and tubes ensure a unique, audiophile, rich and natural sound. Elaborate development work has enabled our engineers to preserve the charm of the valve and tube and, at the same time, produce a pure signal that meets the highest demands. All of our valves and tubes are burned in until their definitive sound characteristics have evolved. In an elaborate selection process, we then choose only those valves and tubes that still meet our stringent quality standards. Only these are ultimately used in our electronics products.
Floor-standing or shelf-top loudspeakers are, as a rule, aligned precisely to the user so as to guarantee optimum treble reproduction. This is not possible with conventional built-in speakers because they are permanently fixed. This therefore often results in significant losses of quality during reproduction. Understandably, there was no way our engineers could be happy with these limitations. So they developed the Swivel Tweeter, which can be flexibly aligned to the user. The tweeter can be swiveled up to 35° in all directions, thus ensuring optimum acoustics regardless of installation location.
